Why did we choose this one piece of advice to put on our signature line?  Without action, dreams never can become a reality. 

Jack Canfield, who wrote the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, is also a noted business consultant and CEO of the Canfield Training Group on Maximizing Human Potential.  He writes, “The #1 thing that separates winners from losers is that winners take action.”  He further explains in an email newsletter dated March 26, 2011 that “When you act, you trigger all kinds of things that inevitably carry you to success – such as learning the skills you need to achieve your goals, getting valuable feedback to help you correct your course, and attracting the people who will support you in achieving greater success.”

Without action, nothing happens.  Dreams fade.  Passion dies.  And at the end of the day, we look ourselves in the mirror and have regrets.

Why are your goals important to you?  What do you hope to accomplish?  Why now?

Are your goals SMART Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely?

What do you need to do short term to achieve your goals? 

I can be a sounding board for you.  I can help you focus and develop a plan to accomplish your goals.

However, it is up to you to take action.  A “Yes” is ok and a “No” or “Not now” is ok because you have then determined that what you want is something to strive for and pursue. Or maybe, you have ruled out certain goals because they are not SMART.  You need to make a decision, develop a plan, and execute the plan to reach your goals.

With help from eAdvantage4u, you can reframe that unrealistic goal, turn it into a SMART goal, and develop a plan to make it happen.  For example, you may tell us you love everything connected with baseball and want to play the game at age 40 professionally.  Not too realistic.  Nevertheless, we could come up with a plan so that you could have enough funds to go enjoy ball games, sponsor ball teams, or be a coach for a youth league.  We could even find a business that allows you to have enough funds to determine your charitable outreach and where you have enough flexibility with your work time to coach or even where you could go to Florida for spring break with your favorite team.

You can be passionate about what you do and like and not work directly in the industry where your passion and interest may lie.  We recently helped a client buy a scrapbook franchise because she loved scrapbooking.  However, within the year, she contacted me and said she was selling her business. When asked why and she told me “I loved to scrapbook because it was a relaxing outlet and relieved the stress and tension in my former job but now that it is a full time business, I no longer love it; nor is it relaxing and fun!”  Likewise, we helped a client who wanted a fitness business as he was a health nut.  Although his business was in the health and fitness industry, he soon came to realize his role was marketing and sales – not working out.  We learned from these experiences to help you do some deep soul searching about working in a business where you have a strong interest or hobby.  You might be better off finding a business where you can leverage your skill sets, education and talents and use your hobby activities as a release and for fun.  Only you can decide, but spend time assessing whether you want to be involved with your biggest passion on a full time work basis.  You may find that it is truly “work” rather than fun even if it had been your passion.  It might be better to find another business where you can leverage your strengths and continue to enjoy or volunteer in your hobby or passionate interest so you can enjoy the best of both.
